Team 3361: The Governators
Team 3361meets R2D2!
During build season, we met with the coolest robot (or should I say droid) in history, R2D2. Andy Wiseman and his team of engineers have been continuously working on replicating R2D2. After one of our team members met R2 at Target in Waynesboro during one of R2's first outings, we were able to make contact with Andy and get a closer look at his creation. The model was complete with a head that turns 360 degrees, a three wheel drive system, and all of the famous noises R2 is known for. Many of the parts were made out of household materials (including tuna cans). Currently, the team is working to finish the core and even get a functioning projector (in case Princess Leia needs some help again). Andy's team attends conventions with the droid-engineering community and even plans to submit his completed project to Disney to be used in the actual movies! We had the opportunity to drive the droid around the room using a PlayStation controller, and R2 seemed to take a liking to our 2014 bot the Banshee.
